Cairo – The Egyptian people were the only leader of the June 30 revolution, Egypt’s parliamentarian Mahmoud Badr said.

Egypt, before this great revolution, was part of a U.S. project that aimed at dividing the Middle East region, Badr told Al-Bawaba News on Friday.

The June 30 revolution was only meant to maintain the Egyptian identity, he added.

Badr was a leader of Tamarod grassroots movement that played a great role in the June 30 revolution after collecting more than 22 million signatures for a petition demanding the overthrow of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, a year after he took office.

Tamarod was founded in late April by members of the Egyptian Movement for Change - better known by its slogan Kefaya (Enough) - which pushed for political reform in Egypt under former president Hosni Mubarak in 2004 and 2005.
