A new political document revealed by Hamas raised a state of controversy in the political arena, as it announced disengagement between the Palestinian movement on one hand and Muslim Brotherhood on the other hand. According to the document, the movement stressed its intention not to interfere in the internal affairs of the Arab countries, while to give priority to the Palestinian issue.
The position adopted by Hamas comes in the framework of the Egyptian role to support the Palestinian reconciliation and Hamas’ aspiration to increase cooperation with the Egyptian authorities to ease the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation.
The move taken by the Palestinian movement is viewed as a turning point in the history of the Palestinian movement, which is known of its loyalty to Muslim Brotherhood. Many experts believe the change in the movement’s position comes as a result of the Egyptian role to support the Palestinian reconciliation to push forward the Palestinian issue in the international community.
Egyptian Parliamentarian Mohamed Al Orabi praised, in a press statement, the step, saying that it is the first time for the Palestinian movement to announce separation from the Muslim Brotherhood on the political side. He added that Hamas’ decision reflects its realization of the active role performed by the Egyptian government in the Palestinian issue.
A number of experts believe the movement adopts a pragmatic approach in dealing with the international and regional Developments. The group’s leader took the same approach towards their previous allies during the Arab Spring revolutions.
Egyptian expert Ahmed Saeed stressed, in a statement to “Al Bawaba News”, the Palestinian movement took the same approach towards its Syrian and Iranian allied after the ascent of Muslim Brotherhood to the power in Egypt. They abandoned their previous allies to serve the interests of the emerging group which appeared to dominate the power not only in Egypt but also in a large number of the Arab countries.
Muslim Brotherhood suffers currently from critical conditions not only on the regional side but also on the international level, he said, adding that the group received a strong blow since the ascent of U.S President Donald Trump to the White House in the light of his intention to list the group as a terrorist group. He stressed, Hamas realized this fact and decided to disown the group.
However, others expressed their fear of the movement’s steps on the ground, stressing, the matter should not be limited to the documents, while such documents should be turned into policies during the coming period to gain the confidence of the international community.
Political researcher Amr Hashem Rabei said that Muslim Brotherhood and their allies adopt slogans without changing their policies. He said that the recent document aims to improve Hamas’ strategic position before the world, while it is not enough to gain the international confidence.
