Benghazi (Libya) - Chief of Staff of the Egyptian armed forces Lieutenant-General Mahmoud Hijazi arrived on Wednesday in the eastern Libyan port city of Benghaz, media reported.
Heading a high-level military delegation, Hijazi was received at Benina International Airport that officially opened after three years of closure due to military operations against terrorists in Benghazi.
Khalifa Haftar, leader of the Libyan National Army (LNA), and the 'Dignity Operation' forces in eastern Libya, received Hegazy, in the Rajma district.
Last Saturday, Haftar met with the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in Cairo. Both discussed the latest developments on the Libyan political scene, with El-Sisi reiterating a call for lifting the embargo on arming what he called "the Libyan national army" led by Haftar.
According to the 'Libya Herald', Hijazi was greeted at Benina International Airport by his counter partner, Major-General Abdul Razzaq Al-Nazhouri with whom he held brief talks before heading off to the nearby Rajmah military base to meet Hafter. He was accompanied by Egyptian Director of Military Intelligence Major-General Mohamed Al-Shahat.
It was reported that the delegation had came to congratulate Hafter on the third anniversary of 'Operation Dignity'.
