Cairo - Al-Azhar Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb issued directives on Friday, June 2, to renovate the house of a poor woman, who appeared in a TV commercial, suffering from the hardships of contaminated water and the eroded condition of her house.
El-Tayeb also ordered delivering safe drinking water to the house and paying the woman a monthly subsidy from Egypt’s Bait Zakat institution, Al Shorouk reported.
Earlier, El-Tayeb had responded to a request by the Egyptian Higher Council for Media Regulation (HCMR) to suspend a TV commercial depicting the shortage and contamination of drinking water in Upper Egypt.
The controversial commercial, in which actress Dalal Abdel Azizi was in, had caused public outrage after filming a poor woman from Upper Egypt suffering from hardships of polluted water in her village.
