Mufti's participation comes in the framework of the efforts
exerted by Egypt’s Islamic institution to eliminate extremism and to fight
terrorism.
Allam said, in a press statement,
that international cooperation and exchange of experience in the fight against
terrorism became urgent need, as the threat posed by extremist groups is not limited
to specific country, while extended to all countries of the world.
He stressed the need for
cooperation between the world’s countries and international organization to
eliminate extremism.
The participation of Egypt's mufti in the
conference is not the first of its kind, as Egypt’s Al-Azhar plays a major role
to combat terrorism not only in Egypt but also on the international level. Al-Azhar’s
Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb sent delegations to many countries to promote
moderation and to confront the extremist ideas.
Al-Azhar dedicated a
multi-language observatory to refute the extremist edicts and to promote
moderate ideas. It also signed a protocol with Vatican to support cooperation
between Al-Azhar and Catholic Church to entrench the concept of dialogue
between different civilization.
