Al-Swedi added that the Egyptian president was keen to
underline the importance of the council, saying that the members of the council
should draft an inclusive plan to activate its role not only on the national
side but also on the international level.
He expressed his support for the president’s call for
adopting a strategy to confront terrorism, stressing the importance of Al-Azhar’s
role to promote moderate ideas and to renew the religious discourse and to prevent
the extremist preachers from taking the opportunity inside the mosques to
promote their ideas.
