Cairo - On
Wednesday, May 24, 2017, a number of media and health personalities were invited
to inaugurate a new initiative called “#IAmTreatedInEgypt,” to promote medical
tourism in Egypt. Among the invitees
were Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj Eldeen, former Minister of Health; Dr. Hani Al-Nazer,
former head of the National Center for Research; and Dr. Serag Zakaria, a world-renowned
hepatologist.
The initiative is organized by Egypt’s Health, Tourism and Aviation Ministries. With about 96 percent recovery rate from Hepatitis C, Egypt leads the world in the global cure rate.
Another initiative to promote visiting Egypt to tour and getting cured from hepatitis-C (among other diseases) is Tour n’ Cure which started months ago. The treatment package,includes the opportunity to visit Egypt’s historical landmarks. It also offers treatment for eczema and rheumatism.
From the media spectrum, the inaugural event was attended by several journalists, anchorpersons and personalities such as Sana Mansour; Mohamed Ali Khair; Lamia Fahmy Abdel Hamid; Iman Ryad, Hanan El-Bahi; Jasmine Taha; Du'aa Farouq; Rana Arafa; Iman Riad; Mamdouh El-Shennawy; and member of parliament Shadia Thabet, wife of the late actor, Ahmed Rateb.
On his part, Dr.
Yousry Al-Sadi, a company manager specialized in the production of scientific
and medical research devices, has expressed his full support to the initiative,
pointing out that it aims to increase the number of tourists seeking medical treatment
in Egypt.
The initiative organizer
Dr. Amr Abbasi, announced a number of steps aimed to turn this initiative into a
successful campaign for Egypt's great and untapped potential in therapeutic and
health tourism. He said that they will be launching an electronic application
for therapeutic tourism and organizing a short film competition on Egypt's
distinct areas of medical tourism, as well as communicating and presenting full
ideas to the House of Representatives to discuss the need for the support of
both governmental and non-governmental bodies. He added that there is ongoing communication with embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the initiative. He
also said that the Hashtag #“#IAmTreatedInEgypt, is being widely used on social
media networks to promote the initiative’s cause.
