After Minya attack:
Cairo - Egypt has fired the security chief of a province south of Cairo where Islamic State militants last week killed 29 Christians traveling to a remote desert monastery.

The removal of police Major General Faisal Dewidar from his post is an acknowledgment of the security agencies' incompetence or failure in dealing with the attack in Minya province.

The Interior Ministry announced the move late on Monday.
After Minya attack:
Friday's attack was the fourth targeting Christians and claimed by the Islamic State group since December, killing more than 100 people in all.

Cairo's independent, daily newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm, reports that an investigation has found there were no security forces on the stretch of desert road leading to the monastery or on nearby roads, allowing the assailants to easily escape.
