Cairo- An On-air squabble broke out with insults and battery between Dr. 'Yasser Faraweela', an Islamic scholar and Sheikh 'Mohamed Al-mallah', a Islamic Salafi cleric.
'Al-Mallah' argued with 'Faraweela' during the talk show on the Satellite channel "The Event Today" on Thursday, saying, "You are against the Egyptian State and what you say is foolishness and dementia".
They were discussing whether there are Shiite books available for sale in the ongoing Cairo International Book Fair. The major split in Islam is that between the majority Sunnis and the minority Shiites. The split goes back to events in the 7th century. Both are Muslims. 'Al-mallah' threw the water bottle on 'Faraweela's face and hit
him with the chair, continuing, "Do not let me beat you with the
shoe". The
broadcaster tried to stop this brawl and so, he apologized to the spectators for
ending the talk show.
Faraweela was accused before of being pro Muslim Brthers group. The relationship between Muslim Brotherhood (which is a banned Islamic group in Egypt and other countries) and Salafis (conservative Islamists) is not good. After the overthrow of the ex-Egyptian President 'Mohamed Morsi' who was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood Group, from power, Most of the Salafis stood by the State and did not show any objections for overthrowing 'Morsi'.
